Safety and community guidelines
Updated October 11, 2026
Shiro is for everyone 13 and older. Stories can be exciting, emotional, scary or funny, and they stay safe. Here's what's allowed, how we enforce it, and what you can do.
What isn't allowed
- Sexual content of any kind.
- Anything that sexualizes or endangers minors.
- Encouraging self-harm, suicide or eating disorders.
- Harassment, bullying, hate speech or slurs.
- Threats of real violence or praise for real attacks.
- Illegal goods or services, scams, and sharing someone's private information.
- Characters that impersonate real private people.
How it's enforced
- Every message is checked. Messages and replies are screened by safety models. If a message breaks the rules, the character steers the story elsewhere instead of answering it.
- Characters are reviewed. New and edited public characters, and their portraits, are checked before they appear on Discover.
- Messages between people are stricter. Direct messages and status notes are held to a stricter standard than stories, because they go to real people.
- People review reports. Our team reviews reported characters, replies, comments and users, and removes content or bans accounts that break the rules.
What you can do
- Report a character, a reply (press and hold it), a comment or a user.
- Block someone to stop them from messaging you or seeing your profile.
- Edit or delete your own messages and characters at any time.
- Contact us any time through Support in the app.
AI is fiction
Characters are AI. Their replies are generated automatically and can be wrong or strange. They aren't advice. If you're going through something difficult, please reach out to someone you trust or to local emergency services.
